Candidate Responses – Alicia Collins

1. What inspired you to run for this office?

“Thank you for asking about why I ran for office.

We often think about our legislators as problem solvers, or the person in the know. So, when I reached out to my local representative during COVID – I expected a return call. NOTHING. Not even a return email after I emailed him.

That isn’t representative government.”

2. What are the top three issues facing House District 61, and how would you address them?

“The top three issues facing any race, in Maine, this election season:

Out of control State Spending, taxes & fees on everything, and our subpar education system.”

3. What decision, accomplishment, or experience best reflects your leadership and values?

“The leadership I hope the people in District 61 see, and even the People of Maine see, is my willingness to listen to understand their issues. We can’t work toward solutions if we don’t understand the problems people are facing.”

4. How do you approach working with people who strongly disagree with you politically?

“Working with people who strongly disagree with me politically should be challenging, but not a closed conversation.

I enjoy hearing different perspectives and learning – I don’t know everything.

For me the approach is simple, bring ideas to the table and be open to the understanding the other side of the issues – then work TOGETHER to create a realistic solution.”

5. Is there anything else you would like voters to know before they cast their ballot?

“The People in Maine House District 61 should know I represent them and if they don’t reach out about their concerns and issues – I may never hear or know about them. Please, reach out to me.

Thank you Ryan for the opportunity to give a brief intro of myself. 🙂”
