On July 27, 2026, The Maine Mirror published Lebanon & Acton Republican Nomination: A Public Records Investigation, documenting public records, campaign communications, and concerns raised following the Republican caucus held in Lebanon to nominate a candidate for Maine House District 144.

Since publication, additional documentation has been reviewed. While this article does not reach conclusions regarding wrongdoing, it documents the publicly observable timeline and identifies questions that remain unanswered.

Campaign Materials Identified a Political Action Committee

Campaign advertisements circulated prior to the July 22 Republican caucus identified the sponsoring organization as:

“Paid for and authorized by Leadership for Maine’s Future PAC.”

A promotional graphic calling for Republican support for Karen Gerrish, who is running for State Representative. The background features an American flag motif and includes details about a caucus event scheduled for July 22, 2026.

The same campaign graphic was also distributed through text messages encouraging Republicans to attend the caucus and support Karen Gerrish.

At the time The Maine Mirror first began reviewing the matter, these campaign materials prompted additional questions regarding the organization identified in the disclaimer.

A Publicly Identified Connection

As part of the public record reviewed by The Maine Mirror, publicly available information identifies Kenneth Fredette as a leader of Leadership for Maine’s Future PAC.

During review of publicly available video from the July 22 Lebanon Republican caucus, an individual appearing to be Kenneth Fredette can also be seen present at the event.

The image is included because publicly available records identify him as a leader of Leadership for Maine’s Future PAC, the committee identified in the campaign disclaimer. The Maine Mirror has not determined whether his attendance was in any official capacity.)

At this time, The Maine Mirror has not determined what role, if any, Mr. Fredette had in the caucus beyond his apparent attendance.

A New Campaign Committee Emerges

Following her Republican nomination, Karen Gerrish publicly thanked supporters and announced that she was opening her campaign account with Laura Whitcomb, whom she identified as the former President of Gun Owners of Maine.

In the same public post, Gerrish wrote that Whitcomb would serve as the campaign’s treasurer.

Subsequent campaign signs likewise identify:

Paid for by Gerrish for House… Laura Whitcomb, Treasurer.

The Maine Mirror notes this development because Whitcomb has previously been the subject of separate reporting regarding Gun Owners of Maine and due process. That prior reporting is available here:

At this time, The Maine Mirror is not asserting that these matters are related or suggesting wrongdoing by Karen Gerrish, Laura Whitcomb, or any other individual referenced in this article. The purpose of this update is to document a new public connection that became part of the public record after our original investigation was published.

Additional Questions Lead to a Separate Investigation

While reviewing campaign materials associated with this story, The Maine Mirror identified additional questions regarding Leadership for Maine’s Future PAC, including publicly available registration information, campaign finance records, and the timeline surrounding campaign communications.

Those questions extend beyond the scope of this article and are being addressed in a separate records-based investigation dedicated exclusively to the PAC’s publicly available filings and related documentation.

Readers will find that investigation linked here once published.

Questions That Remain

As this investigation continues, several questions remain unanswered:

These questions are presented because they arise naturally from the public record reviewed by The Maine Mirror—not because The Maine Mirror has reached any conclusions regarding their answers.

The Public Record Continues

The Maine Mirror remains committed to documenting facts, preserving public records, and inviting clarification from all parties involved.
