ST. GEORGE, Maine — As Maine’s 2026 election season continues, The Maine Mirror is highlighting candidates from across the political spectrum to help voters learn more about the people seeking to represent them in Augusta.

Today’s Candidate Spotlight features Rep. Ann Matlack, the Democratic nominee for Maine State Senate District 12.

What You Should Know

Rep. Ann Matlack is serving her fourth term in the Maine House of Representatives, representing House District 43, which includes Cushing, part of Owls Head, St. George, South Thomaston, and Thomaston.

In the Legislature, Matlack serves on the Taxation Committee, the Government Oversight Committee, and the State and Local Government Committee.

Before serving in the Legislature, Matlack spent seven years as the assistant to the city manager of Rockland. She has also been active in local government and community service, serving two terms on the former MSAD 50 School Board, 10 years on the St. George Budget Committee, and 10 years on the Knox County Budget Committee.

Matlack previously served as board chair of Penquis, a nonprofit Community Action Agency that provides programs including Head Start, the Home Energy Assistance Program, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program across Knox, Penobscot, and Piscataquis counties.

A graduate of the University of Maine, Matlack also holds a master’s degree in Public Policy and Management from the Muskie School of Public Service. She lives in St. George.
