CAMDEN, Maine — The Maine Accessibility Project (MAP) has completed its latest municipal accessibility review, evaluating the Town of Camden’s response to a standardized public election information request.
MAP is a statewide initiative by The Maine Mirror that measures how accessible municipalities are when residents seek basic public election information. Every municipality receives the same request, is evaluated using the same published methodology, and is scored using the same 100-point rubric.

What Camden Did Well
Camden provided one of the most complete responses received through the Maine Accessibility Project to date.
The Town Clerk answered every question contained in the standardized request. The response identified the municipality’s Maine House and Senate districts, listed the certified candidates currently running for those legislative seats, explained the status of municipal elections and a pending citizens’ initiative petition, and supplied the town’s official election webpage for additional voting resources.
The communication was courteous, organized, and easy to follow, allowing residents to quickly locate both the requested information and official government resources for additional details.
Opportunities for Improvement
At this time, no significant opportunities for improvement were identified under the published MAP methodology.
While every municipality can continue refining how information is presented over time, Camden’s response met the objectives established by the standardized evaluation criteria.
Overall Assessment
Camden demonstrated exceptional public accessibility by providing a complete, timely, and professional response that directly addressed every question included in the request.
Rather than referring residents elsewhere for information, the municipality supplied the requested election details while also providing official government resources for verification and additional context. This approach minimizes the amount of additional research required by residents and reflects a strong commitment to public accessibility.
With a 100 out of 100, Camden establishes the current benchmark for the Maine Accessibility Project and serves as an example of the level of responsiveness and completeness MAP seeks to recognize.
About the Maine Accessibility Project (MAP)
The Maine Accessibility Project (MAP) is a statewide initiative by The Maine Mirror that evaluates how accessible municipalities are when responding to standardized public election information requests. Every municipality receives the same questions, is evaluated using the same published methodology, and is measured against the same scoring rubric.
The goal of MAP is not to criticize local government, but to recognize excellent public service, encourage continual improvement, and help strengthen trust between citizens and the public institutions that serve them.
