Following publication of our original investigation and our first story update, The Maine Mirror continued reviewing the Gorham Democrats’ public Facebook page and documenting additional developments.
That continuing review produced several new findings.
A Third Disabled-Comments Post Identified
In our previous reporting, The Maine Mirror documented two recent Gorham Democrats Facebook posts that appeared to have public comments disabled.
Following additional review using a separate Facebook account, we identified another recent post that had not been included in our original review.
The post shares a The Hill article reporting that former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson had taken formal steps toward entering Maine’s U.S. Senate race amid increasing pressure on Graham Platner following the public allegations.
Like the previously documented posts, this post also appeared to have public comments disabled while reactions remained available.
This modifies our previous reporting.
Rather than identifying only two recent posts with comments disabled, The Maine Mirror has now identified at least three recent posts with comments disabled, each relating directly to the rapidly developing Platner controversy or its immediate political implications.
This observation documents a publicly observable pattern.
It does not establish why comments were disabled, nor does it imply any particular motivation.

The Maine Mirror Requested Comment
As part of our ongoing commitment to fairness and accuracy, The Maine Mirror contacted the Gorham Democrats before publishing this update.
The request for comment asked the organization to clarify several developments documented during our reporting, including:
- the apparent removal of the original postponement post,
- the apparent blocking of Editor-in-Chief Ryan Michaels’ Facebook account,
- Facebook moderation decisions affecting recent posts,
- and any additional context the organization wished to provide regarding the evolving timeline.
Rather than simply reporting observations without first seeking clarification, The Maine Mirror provided the organization an opportunity to respond before additional reporting was published.

Request for Comment Appears to Have Been Received
Email tracking associated with those requests indicated that both publicly listed Gorham Democrats email addresses registered the request for comment as opened at approximately 10:11 a.m.
Email tracking can indicate that an email was opened or that its contents were loaded.
It does not establish whether the email was read in full or what actions, if any, were taken afterward.
As of publication of this update, The Maine Mirror has not received a response.
Should the Gorham Democrats provide clarification or additional context, we will update the public record accordingly.

Access to the Gorham Democrats Page Changed
Following publication of The Maine Mirror’s reporting, Editor-in-Chief Ryan Michaels was no longer able to access the Gorham Democrats’ Facebook page using his personal Facebook account.
To determine whether the page itself had become unavailable or whether access had changed only for his account, The Maine Mirror reviewed the page using a different Facebook account.
The page remained publicly accessible.
Based upon those observations, Ryan Michaels’ Facebook account appears to have been blocked from accessing the Gorham Democrats’ Facebook page.
At this time, The Maine Mirror has not determined when the apparent block occurred or the reason for it.
Accordingly, no conclusions are drawn regarding the motivation for that action.
The observation is documented here solely as part of the continuing public record.
The Timeline Continues to Grow
As of publication of this update, The Maine Mirror has documented the following publicly observable sequence of events:
- A Gorham Democrats event featuring Graham Platner was postponed.
- A public video stated that, “From my understanding, he is not feeling well,” while assuring viewers that “that’s all it is.”
- Public allegations involving Graham Platner became widely known.
- The Gorham Democrats shared Graham Platner’s public response denying those allegations.
- The original postponement post later appeared to no longer be publicly available.
- Additional review identified at least three recent posts with comments disabled, each relating directly to the Platner controversy or its immediate political implications.
- Editor-in-Chief Ryan Michaels’ Facebook account appears unable to access the Gorham Democrats’ Facebook page, while the page remained accessible through another account.
- The Maine Mirror requested comment before publishing this update.
- Both publicly listed Gorham Democrats email addresses registered the request for comment as opened.
- As of publication, no response has been received.
Each point above reflects either publicly observable information or actions taken by The Maine Mirror during its reporting.
Why This Matters

Sometimes they choose not to.

Following publication of this story, The Maine Mirror received an email response from the Gorham Democrats regarding our request for comment.
The response stated:
“I’ve forwarded your request for comment to the Maine Democratic Party.”
The response did not address the specific questions raised in our request regarding:
- the apparent removal of the original postponement post,
- the apparent blocking of Editor-in-Chief Ryan Michaels’ Facebook account,
- the Facebook moderation decisions discussed throughout this article, or
- the additional disabled-comments posts identified during our continuing review.
At the time of this update, The Maine Mirror has not yet received a substantive response addressing those questions from either the Gorham Democrats or the Maine Democratic Party.
