North Berwick, Maine — June 2, 2026

The North Berwick Select Board met on June 2, 2026, to discuss a variety of topics affecting the town, including the MSAD 60 school budget, municipal infrastructure projects, energy contracts, zoning ordinances, and ongoing community initiatives.

Fire & Rescue Station Project Continues

Town Manager Dwayne Morin reported that bid packets for the new Fire & Rescue Station have been distributed to contractors, and meetings with project architects are scheduled. Soil testing and surveying proposals came in below budget estimates, helping the project move forward.

Morin also noted that while the town has been awarded grant funding for the project, officials are still awaiting guidance on when those funds will be distributed. Despite the delay, planning and project development remain ongoing.

Data Center Regulations Under Review

The Board discussed potential zoning language related to data centers. Morin shared research from municipalities across the country and discussed how other communities have approached defining and regulating data centers.

Board members expressed interest in developing a comprehensive definition and ordinance language for future consideration. The topic may continue moving through the ordinance review process with the goal of possible voter consideration later this year.

Discussion Continues on Shooting Range Ordinance

The Board also reviewed draft zoning language related to sport shooting ranges.

Members discussed balancing future land-use planning with the interests of existing range operators. The Board voted to continue working on ordinance language while further evaluating how future ranges and potential expansions might be addressed.

MSAD 60 Presents FY27 Budget

MSAD 60 Superintendent Audra Beauvais and Assistant Superintendent Susan Austin provided an overview of the district’s proposed budget.

School officials reported that the budget reflects an 8.61% increase after an additional $300,000 was restored to transportation funding during the public hearing process.

North Berwick Elementary School was identified as a facility that will require future improvements, including ADA-related upgrades and playground enhancements.

Maple Street Forest Trail Improvements Being Explored

The town is exploring improvements to trails within the Maple Street Forest area.

Preliminary estimates indicate that approximately 400 feet of new and repaired footbridges could be needed throughout the trail system. Town officials are considering grant opportunities to help fund the project and discussed the possibility of volunteer involvement in future trail maintenance efforts.

New Electricity Contract Approved

The Select Board approved allowing the Town Manager to enter into a new electricity contract after concerns were raised regarding fees associated with a previously considered proposal.

Town officials reported that the selected provider offers a 36-month contract structure. The contract was approved following additional review of pricing and service terms.

Employee Health Reimbursement Program Changing Providers

The Board approved transitioning the town’s Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) administration from Flores HR to Consumer Health Solutions.
